Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Mr. Nitin Gadkari, stated that India will become the world’s largest electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer within five years. He emphasised that ongoing advancements in technology and Indigenous production of EVs will drive this growth. He highlighted that reducing dependence on fossil fuels is crucial for environmental sustainability and economic benefits. Additionally, he underscored the government’s efforts in promoting green mobility through policy initiatives and incentives, including subsidies for EV adoption and infrastructure development.
He further stressed that India’s EV sector is witnessing substantial investment and innovation, positioning the country as a key player in the global automobile industry. He noted that cost reductions in lithium-ion batteries and increased local manufacturing will significantly enhance affordability and adoption. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting alternative fuels such as ethanol, hydrogen, and biofuels. With strong policy support and industry participation, India aims to lead the global transition towards sustainable mobility, reducing import dependency and enhancing energy security.
