India’s Coal Sector has Crossed the One Billion Tonne Milestone in Cumulative Production for the FY25

India’s coal sector has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing the one billion tonne mark in cumulative production for FY25. This reflects the Ministry of Coal’s concerted efforts to enhance output, streamline dispatches, and bolster the country’s energy security. The total coal production for FY25 reached 1,047.57 million tonnes (MT) (provisional), compared to 997.83 MT in FY24, registering a 4.99% growth. Additionally, commercial, captive, and other commercial production surged to 197.50 MT (provisional), marking a substantial 28.11% rise from 154.16 MT in the previous year.

Coal dispatch has also demonstrated strong progress, crossing one billion tonnes in FY25 to reach 1,024.99 MT (provisional), up from 973.01 MT in FY24—an increase of 5.34%. Dispatch from commercial, captive, and other entities rose to 196.83 MT (provisional), reflecting a 31.39% growth over the previous year’s 149.81 MT. These achievements underscore India’s commitment to ramping domestic coal production while ensuring efficient distribution. The Ministry of Coal remains focused on self-reliance, reducing import dependence, and promoting sustainable mining to reinforce the nation’s energy security and economic stability.
